2012 Summer times

This month I did the main shooting for Only the Young Die Good. I had a great time and the set was so professional. We shot at the Nunnery and it was a perfect location. I love some of the on set stills that have been captured and I’m very grateful for them! Feel free to click on the link above to watch the trailer.

In other news my partner Ash and I have opened up our own boutique Home Studio. I am teaching singing and acting and he is teaching guitar, piano, composition and theory. We’ve humbly called it Ash & Em’s home studio and we are very excited about our project. So far it has helped us have flexibility with our schedules so we can audition, write and perform too!

I have been reviewing for AussieTheatre so please feel free to check out those reviews. The site is fabulous and is a wonderful way to keep in touch with what’s on in Australia.

I have had the chance to shoot an online advert this month which was a wonderful experience. Great director, easy actor to work with and an efficient technical team. I have also been to a few advert auditions this summer and an audition for the musical Marvellous Wonderettes which was especially fun!

2012 feels very positive so far. I hope it is for you too.

Dastardly December!

December was madness! For so many reasons.

I had a wonderful time pretending I was going to go on a luxurious cruise when I performed on the Dawn Princess this month. I was being a Santa’s Angel with two other girls. We sing Christmas Carols with fabulous tight harmonies as a trio and I have great fun doing it. Sole Entertainment also booked a second Christmas gig this month so I was happy to get dolled up and do it all again.

Tea and Play Readings has wrapped up for 2011 and it’s been a great year- some of the highlights for me include reading Moliere’s The Bourgeois Gentleman, Grey Gardens the musical and Cosi. This year we even took the opportunity to sing song’s to each other and then we learnt harmonies as a group and sung the hypnotic Down to the River to Pray.

I’m really excited about 2012 as I have found myself a great new agent- BGM. I was interviewed this month and Bridget and Marea were very hospitable. They have lots of fabulously talented people on their books and I’m truly honoured to be a part of their agency. Bring on the auditions!

Merry Christmas Everyone and I wish you a Happy New Years!!!

Movember

So November saw me auditioning for South Pacific which is being put on by Opera Australia. They were nice enough to call me back and I had a wonderful time auditioning with my peers as we had to do some very amusing character work with the dance we were taught. The director will be Michael Grandage the original director of the Donmar version of Guys and Dolls which I was in in 2008-2009.

I also had Jersey Boys and I was down to the last Melbourne four (last time I was down to the last Melbourne three!) but alas finished after singing & dancing. The lady who did get called back is a friend so I wish her all the best..

Only the Young Die Good filmed this month and I got to film in the Nicholas Building which is a great creative space! I loved the make-up, hair, costume and set- so much detail- and filming the smokey detectives office scene. A fun day and I had an interesting time stepping into the life of a smoker..

My first Christmas gig is booked! I’ll be a Santa’s Angel singing as part of a trio on the Dawn Princess for Sole Entertainment.

Movember of course also marks the month of the moustache. This great cause deserves our support so please go their site and contribute if you can.

Hope you had a great November,

Emily

Owning October

I know, I’m running out of alliterations for this month.

October has been full of auditions again though! King Kong the musical (for more info see AussieTheatre), the children’s show James and the Giant Peach (by Playing With Snails), a TVC and South Pacific with Opera Australia. I was second in line for the TVC, but unfortunately lady number one said yes- who wouldn’t!! Lovely to be up there in the runnings.

I had my first rehearsal and a glamorous make-up trial for the Australian independent feature Film Noire piece Only the Young Die Good. There is lots of fun to be had as shooting draws closer! I attended their fundraiser Kiss Me Deadly where I saw my first glimpse of Melbourne Burlesque. I love all the gorgeous brands that supported the night- check them out. Also if you’re feeling philanthropic it would be lovely to have you contribute to the film. They are taking donations as low as a dollar- anything helps!!

Well I hope everyone is well,

Emily PB

September Success

Loving September! My birthday month gave me a wonderful present in the form of the role of Valerie Richmond in the Australian Independent film Only the Young Die Good by Southside Productions. This month I got the role and participated in a great read through. This piece is film noire and will be set in Melbourne in 1949 and shot in black and white.

This month I got to see Rock of Ages (which actually was a birthday present!) and I absolutely loved it. It’s in it’s final days and is indefinitely postponed for Sydney so, see it now!!

Tea and Play Readings had a great month with reading The Bourgeois Gentleman, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf and As You Like It. If you are an actor in Melbourne who want’s to keep up their reading skills, please join the facebook group Tea and Play Readings or contact me to stay updated with events.

Also this month I began reviewing for the fabulous website AussieTheatre. It is well worth a gander for the latest in theatre in the land down under. Browse the regular columns, check out the reviews for the shows you’re thinking you’d like to see and read about whats coming and much more!

Hope you’re September was successful too,

August Activities

It’s August and the weather is starting to get warm in Australia again!

I’ve done a few auditions since I last reported including a musical short film (one to watch out for: My Favourite Cafe), and the musicals An Officer & a Gentleman & Mary Poppins– again. This time it was for their Australian tour and I got to sing Mary material again- which I thoroughly enjoy- as well as learn more dance than before.

I have attended a weekend workshop in Sydney run by ANATS where I got to hear some wisdom from Gillyanne Kayes (author of Singing & the Actor) & Jeremy Fisher. Thanks to MEAA I also got to work with French director Jean-Pierre Mignon in a day workshop.

And lastly I got to shoot a fabulous short corporate film for the MX’s 10th birthday with Matt Scott behind the camera and Matt Cleaves & George Clipp directing. Hopefully I can post a link to this one soon as I am rather proud of it!!

June Job hunting

Well! It’s time to update again with what’s happening in my life in regards to auditions..

I found out today that sadly I’m out of the running for a part in Annie. I had a lovely audition and got to read and sing for the part of Grace Farrell. I was also lucky enough to be down to the last two for the role of Nina in Dear World which Magnormos is putting on. I am looking forward to watching the Jerry Herman Triptych this time.

It seems An Officer and a Gentleman and Les Mis are both rumoured to come so it’s on to the next one!

In other news I recently filmed a mockumentary as yet unnamed about the “Melbourne Appreciation Society”. I’ll post a link when I get one.

I hope this finds everyone warm & healthy.

Mellow May

May has got a few auditions happening but all with very generous notice which makes preparation much easier. Legally Blonde, King Kong the Musical and Annie auditions are all in May.

There is so much Music Theatre to see at the moment too. This month I hope to get to Hatpin, Next to Normal, Dr Zhivago and Rock of Ages. Wish me luck!

May sees Macbeth wrap up too. Here are some reviews for those of you that are interested:

April Antics

April is here and I am having far too much fun playing a witch in Opera Australias Macbeth!!

It’s on at the Arts Centre in Melbourne if you want to come along. With a full orchestra and over 50 singers the sound is very powerful. The musicians are all so talented & inspiring- such lavish grandeur!!

In other news my showreel is done so watch this space as it will be uploaded to youtube and this website soon.

Auditions for King Kong, Legally Blonde, Annie and others are coming up- so wish me luck!
